British William Funnell was the winner of the DCM De Ceuster Meststoffen Prize (CSI4*, Table A against the clock, 1.45m). The 50-year-old rider from Dorking was second last to go and took over the lead from Germany’s Holger Hetzel. Funnell was clear in 63.82 seconds with his 13-year-old KWPN gelding Billy Angelo (Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve x Kroongraaf). Funnell said afterwards: “I ride Billy Angelo since he was a young horse and he has always performed very well. Last year he won Friday’s main class here in Zandhoven.” Funnell runs the Billy Stud together with his wife Pippa, who is an international eventing rider and breeder Donal Barnwell.
Hetzel had to settle for the runner-up sort with the eight-year-old KWPN gelding Dalli Dalli 6 (Canturano x Indoctro). The combination crossed the finish line at 64.60 seconds. Funnell’s compatriot Charlotte Platt took third place with Colien V (KWPN, Lupicor x Goodwill) in 65.57.
